JAKARTA - The head of the European Union's Foreign Policy Kaja Kallas warned that the United States (US), China, and Russia prefer a fragmented Europe because a united European Union is a geopolitical force capable of challenging the big powers.

Speaking at the Lennart Meri Conference in Tallinn, Estonia's capital, on Sunday, Kallas said the EU's collective strength was precisely the reason why external forces were trying to weaken it.

"They don't like the European Union; that's very clear," he said, launching Anadolu (17/5).

"If we are united, if we operate together, then we are an equal force; we are strong," he said.

His remarks come as European leaders grapple with uncertainty over Washington's long-term commitment to European security.

He argued that dealing with individual European countries is easier for global powers than negotiating with the bloc as a whole, describing efforts to foster bilateral relations as part of a broader "divide and conquer" strategy.

Kallas also urged the EU government to reject pressures that could weaken European unity, warning that internal divisions risked reducing the bloc's global influence amid rising geopolitical instability.

"The reason why these forces want to dissolve the European Union is because we are much stronger when we are united," he said.
