JAKARTA - Iran responded to the latest US proposal to end the war with a "generous and responsible" offer.
"We do not demand any concessions from the US, but rather call for an end to the war and piracy against Iranian ships," Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei said on Monday, May 11.
Responding to reports on Qatar's role in mediation with the US, Baqaei said that although Iran continues to communicate with various countries regarding the ongoing tensions, Pakistan continues to play its role as an official mediator.
"Pakistan, as the official mediator between Iran and the US, continues to carry out its activities in this regard," he said, adding that other countries, including Qatar, also expressed their views in the process.
Baqaei said the diplomatic process has its own rules and the parties involved must act based on their respective national interests.
He reiterated that Iran would "fight whenever necessary" and take advantage of diplomatic opportunities when deemed appropriate.
On Sunday, Iran responded to the latest US proposal to end the war to Pakistani mediators.
Tensions in the Middle East have escalated since the US and Israel launched an attack on Iran on February 28, which then retaliated against Israel and US allies in the Gulf region and closed the Strait of Hormuz.
The ceasefire came into effect on April 8 through Pakistani mediation, but talks in Islamabad failed to produce a permanent deal.
The ceasefire was then extended by US President Donald Trump indefinitely amid ongoing diplomatic efforts to find a permanent solution.
