SEMARANG - The Central Java National Narcotics Agency (BNNP) stated that the circulation of drugs is now increasingly massive using digital technology, social media, and closed networks so that it is more difficult to detect.
The head of the Central Java BNNP, Toton Rasyid, when confirmed in Semarang, Saturday, said that the current drug handling challenge is indeed increasingly complex and dynamic.
"Drug trafficking is no longer only targeting big cities, but has entered even rural areas, education, and even digital spaces," he said.
According to him, this change in the pattern of drug circulation is one of the main challenges faced in efforts to prevent, eradicate, abuse, and illicit trafficking in narcotics (P4GN).
"This requires the adaptation of more modern and responsive prevention strategies," he said.
Moreover, he said, at this time there are also various new modes of drug abuse with packaging and forms that are increasingly difficult for the community to recognize.
He explained that narcotics are no longer just in conventional form, but have been modified and disguised in the form of, such as vape or e-cigarette liquid.
"There are also those in the form of snacks, candy, drinks, certain liquids, to products that resemble daily needs," he said.
According to him, this modus is very dangerous because it targets the younger generation and has the potential to lower public awareness due to its shape which is difficult to distinguish from ordinary products.
He emphasized that the war on drugs is not enough just through enforcement, but also through community resilience development and the protection of the younger generation.
As an effort to build community resilience and protect the younger generation, one of them is through volunteers and anti-drug activists who have a very strategic role as the spearhead of prevention in the community.
"They become an extension of the BNN in building education, early detection, and healthy living campaigns without drugs to the family and community levels," he said.
He said that by 2025, a total of 373 anti-narcotics activists and 473 anti-narcotics volunteers were active in Central Java.
Anti-drug volunteers and activists are involved in various programs, such as the Clean Drug Tematik Work (Bersinar), BBN Masuk Sekolah, and Sinalar Program (Sinau Narkoba Kanggo Pelajar).
"The presence of these volunteers and activists is proof that P4GN cannot be done by the BNN alone," he said.
In line with the spirit of War On Drugs For Humanity, said Toton, the community must be part of the solution and agents of change in their respective environments.
