Member of Commission I of the House of Representatives TB Hasanuddin highlighted the involvement of the Indonesian National Army (TNI), especially the Indonesian Air Force, in the orientation program for scholarship recipients of the Education Fund Management Agency (LPDP). The orientation includes material on mental readiness, discipline, leadership, and the cultivation of love for the country and character formation.

TB Hasanuddin assessed that the policy needed to be studied carefully so as not to conflict with the provisions of laws and regulations and not interfere with the professionalism of the TNI as a means of defense for the country.

"The involvement of the TNI in this context needs to be reviewed. We must ensure that every state institution works according to its main tasks and functions," TB Hasanuddin told reporters, Tuesday, May 5.

TB Hasanuddin explained, Law Number 3 of 2025 concerning changes to the TNI Law clearly regulates the duties of the TNI, including within the framework of Military Operations Other than War (OMSP) which includes 16 types of tasks. However, there is no mandate that specifically regulates the role of the TNI as a lecturer in the provision of scholarship recipients.

"In the list of tasks of the OMSP, there is nothing directly related to the role as a lecturer in the scholarship briefing program. This is important to be aware of so that there is no expansion of roles outside the legal corridor," he said.

Furthermore, TB Hasanuddin reminded government agencies not to involve the TNI outside of its main duties. According to him, this has the potential to affect the focus, professionalism, and readiness of the TNI in carrying out the function of national defense.

"The more often the TNI is involved in affairs outside of defense, it is feared that it will have an impact on consistency and commitment in carrying out its main duties," said the PDIP legislator from the West Java District.

TB Hasanuddin also emphasized that the provision for LPDP scholarship recipients should be adjusted to the main purpose of the program, namely to produce superior human resources in the fields of academics and science.

"The briefing should focus on increasing academic capacity, research, and the development of scientific competence. There are many relevant alternative sources, such as LPDP alumni who have been successful and have direct experience," he explained.

According to TB Hasanuddin, values such as discipline, leadership, and love for the country do not always have to be given by the TNI, but can be instilled through various approaches that are more contextual with the world of education.

"We need to ensure that every program is on target, effective, and remains within the framework of good governance," he concluded.

It is known that the Education Fund Management Agency (LPDP) involves the Indonesian National Army (TNI) in the training for LPDP scholarship recipients.

This involvement was realized through the support of the Indonesian Air Force in facilitating the Departure Preparation (PK) program held by the LPDP at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base (Lanud), Jakarta, on Monday, May 4 to Saturday, May 5.
