JAKARTA - President Volodymyr Zelensky on Monday announced that Ukraine would implement a ceasefire with Russia starting Wednesday local time.

"We are announcing a ceasefire starting at 00:00 on May 5-6. In the time remaining until then, it is realistic to ensure that silence prevails," President Zelensky wrote on the social media X, as reported by Xinhua (5/5).

"Ukraine will act reciprocally from then on," President Zelensky continued.

He added that Ukraine had not received an official request regarding the modality of cessation of hostilities referred to in Russian social media.

Previously, the Russian Defense Ministry on Monday announced a ceasefire on May 8-9 to commemorate Victory Day in World War II.
