Muhammad  Sarmuji: Collaboration between Workers and Employers is the Key to Mutual Prosperity

JAKARTA - Chairman of the Golkar Party Faction of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Muhammad Sarmuji, emphasized that workers' welfare cannot be separated from the stability and progress of the business world.

Sarmuji, who is also the Secretary General of the Golkar Party, in his statement in Jakarta, Friday, emphasized the importance of harmonious cooperation between workers and employers as the main foundation for national economic development.

"Healthy industrial relations must be built on the principles of mutual respect, open dialogue, and equal partnership. Workers and employers are not two parties facing each other, but strategic partners in promoting economic growth and shared prosperity," said Sarmuji.

This statement was made in commemoration of World Labor Day (May Day) 2026. He also expressed his appreciation to all workers in Indonesia.

According to him, the momentum of Labor Day is the right time to strengthen commitment in building a healthy, fair, and sustainable industrial relationship.

Sarmuji also encouraged the strengthening of social dialogue between trade unions, employers, and the government, both at the company level and in the formulation of national policies. He assessed that effective communication can prevent conflicts and produce balanced solutions.

In addition, he highlighted the importance of improving the quality of human resources through vocational training, as well as reskilling and upskilling programs in the midst of changes in the world of work due to digitization and technological developments.

"The state must be present to ensure that workers are not left behind by the changes of the times. Training and skills improvement programs must be expanded so that our workforce is able to compete globally," he said.

He also emphasized the need to strengthen the protection of workers' rights, including social security, occupational safety, and the certainty of decent wages. The government is asked to ensure that the implementation of labor regulations is consistent and fair.

According to Sarmuji, the stability of industrial relations will have a direct impact on the investment climate. A harmonious relationship is considered to increase Indonesia's attractiveness to investors and open more jobs.

He also invited all elements of the nation to make Labor Day a momentum for reflection and collaboration.

"May Day is not only about commemorating the struggle of workers, but also strengthening the spirit of togetherness. With harmonious cooperation between workers, employers, and the government, we are optimistic that we can realize a more just, prosperous, and competitive Indonesia," he said.
