Today's Weather: Light Rain Predicted to Flood a Number of Major Cities

JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) predicts that most of the provincial capital areas in Indonesia will be hit by light rain on Wednesday, April 29.

BMKG Medayu Bestari's Praktirawan said that in Bandar Lampung City, it was estimated that the air would be hazy, while light rain was potentially occurring in Banda Aceh City, Medan, Pekanbaru, Tanjung Pinang, Jambi, Pangkal Pinang, Bengkulu, and Palembang.

"Be aware of the lightning rain that can occur in Padang City," said Bestari, quoted by Antara, Wednesday morning.

Turning to Java, the weather in Jakarta, Serang, and Surabaya is predicted to be rainy with light intensity, while Bandung will be hit by moderate rain.

"Be aware of the lightning rain that can occur in Semarang and Yogyakarta," said Medayu.

Then for the Kalimantan region, the cities of Pontianak, Tanjung Selor, Samarinda, and Palangkaraya will be light rain, while Banjarmasin is predicted to be lightning rain.

Moving to the Bali and Nusa Tenggara region, light rain is predicted to hit Kupang City, while Denpasar has the potential to rain with moderate intensity. The community in the Mataram region is asked to be alert for lightning.

Then for Sulawesi Island, the weather in Palu City will be covered by thick clouds, while Gorontalo, Manado, Kendari, and Makassar are predicted to rain with light intensity.

"Mamuju City is predicted to rain with moderate intensity," he said.

For the Maluku and North Maluku regions, the cities of Ambon and Ternate have the potential to be hit by rain with a light intensity.

Shifting to the Papua region, Merauke City is predicted to be cloudy, while Sorong, Manokwari, Nabire, Jayawijaya, and Jayapura will be light rain.

BMKG also reminded the public to be on alert for the potential for heavy to very heavy rain in Bengkulu, West Java, Central Java, East Java, Bali, NTB, NTT, and Maluku.
