River Whirlpool Strongly Allegedly Caused KM Ryan Accident In Nunukan Kaltara, 5 People Died

KALTARA - Head of Basarnas Tarakan Amiruddin said that the accidental overturning of the speedboat (speedboat) KM Ryan in the waters of Sembakung, Nunukan, Monday, June 7 at around 13.28 WITA was caused by a whirlpool.

"The cause of this accident was due to the whirlpool which was the impact of the floods that occurred several days in the Malinau and Nunukan areas," Amiruddin said in Tarakan, as reported by Antara.

He explained that the water discharge in the high part (river) is still large. Meanwhile, the river has begun to recede.

Then the water went down right into the bend area of the fast boat passing and an accident occurred at that location. As for other factors causing the accident, he did not know.

For the latest conditions in the field, it cannot be disclosed in detail considering the communication (Network) problem. "As for factor A or factor B, I'm sorry I can't provide a statement because it's not our domain," said Amiruddin.

It is known, there were 30 passengers on KM Ryan who departed from the Beringin port, Tarakan for Sembakung, Nunukan. Five people were found dead.

Currently, the passengers who died and those who survived were taken to Roof Village, Sembakung District, Nunukan.
