JAKARTA - A debt collector (DC) of online loans (pinjol) who reported a false fire incident or "prank" visited the Semarang City Fire Service (Damkar) Office on Saturday, April 25, to apologize in person.
The debt collector named Bonefentura Soa alias Fenan (26) admitted that he consciously carried out the "prank" because he was carried away by emotions because the debtor was difficult to contact regarding the debt arrears.
"I admit my mistake. I did it myself without coercion, but I didn't think about the impact it would have this far. I am ready to accept the consequences and apologize to Mr. Ngadi (debtor, ed.) and the damkar team," he said.
The Secretary of the Semarang City Damkar Office, Ade Bhakti, stated that his party had reported the case of false fire reporting to the police.
Although he personally had received an apology from the perpetrator, he emphasized that the decision to withdraw or continue the report was in the hands of the institution's leadership.
"I personally have nothing to do with Mas Fenan, but this is an institution. We wear damkar clothes and this is an institution that we think cannot be played like that," he said.
For the next steps to be taken after the apology, he said, his party would coordinate with the leadership, especially in relation to the report to the police.
"We will report to the leadership because yesterday we have stepped into the legal realm. Whether yesterday's report will be stacked with new personnel reports or what, we will have further information," he said.
Not only apologizing, the debt collector of the "prank" perpetrator was also given the opportunity to try a number of tasks of the damkar officers, including spraying high-pressure water to feel it.
Meanwhile, the company where the perpetrator works, PT GAD (Agent & Co), stated that it would respect all applicable legal processes.
They left the decision entirely to the Semarang Damkar and the police regarding the legal sanctions for their employees.
The incident occurred on Thursday, April 23 afternoon, which began with a report of a fire at the Mas Adi Fried Rice stall owned by Ngadi on Jalan WR Supratman Semarang so that the damkar officers immediately deployed two fire trucks to the location.
At the location, the owner of the stall was also surprised because he did not feel like reporting, and after being traced it turned out that the false report was the work of a loan debt collector to scare Ngadi because of the debt problem.
Based on information, the nominal debt of the owner of the stall is not much, namely around Rp. 2 million which is a loan debt since 2020.
