Jayapura - The Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR) encourages the formation of a Special Committee (Pansus) to accelerate economic strengthening and the resolution of various issues in the Papua border area which is considered to still face development challenges and limitations in supporting infrastructure for public services.

Chairman of Commission II of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Muhammad Rifqinizamy Karsayuda in Jayapura, Monday, said that the complexity of the problems in the border area could not be handled partially, because it involved many ministries, institutions, and local governments, so a stronger coordination forum was needed and had broad authority through the formation of a Pansus in the Indonesian Parliament.

"So far, handling border issues has been carried out more through working committees whose scope is limited to certain commission partners, while problems in the field concern cross-sectors ranging from government administration, infrastructure development, public services, to strengthening the local community's economy," he said.

According to Rifqinizamy, for this reason, the formation of the Special Committee will be discussed with all factions in the DPR RI to obtain political understanding, so that the policy recommendations produced have strong legitimacy and are able to encourage the synchronization of programs between the central and regional governments on an ongoing basis.

"The presence of border areas should not only be seen as the front door of the country, but must be developed to become the center of new economic growth that has a direct impact on improving people's welfare through strengthening cross-border trade, developing micro, small and medium enterprises, and optimizing the potential of local resources," he said.

He explained that in addition to the regulatory aspect, his party also ensured that physical development, such as the State Border Crossing Post (PLBN), connecting roads, health facilities, and educational facilities remained a priority so that the economic activities of the people in the border area could grow faster, evenly, and competitive in the long term.

"On Wednesday (4/2) we have visited the Border Crossing Post (PLBN) in Skouw, Jayapura City, Papua to see what the condition of the place is like," he said again.

He added and the results of the visit were indeed needed to accelerate the development of infrastructure on the border in Papua because the economy in the region had a very significant impact on local residents.
