Just Passed After 22 Years, PKB Legislator: PPRT Law Becomes a History of the Struggle to Protect Domestic Workers

JAKARTA - Deputy Chairman of Commission IX of the DPR from the PKB Faction, Nihayatul Wafiroh, emphasized that the enactment of the Law on the Protection of Domestic Workers (UU PPRT) was an important milestone in the history of the struggle for the protection of domestic workers in Indonesia. He was grateful, after going through a long process for more than two decades, this regulation was finally officially enacted.

"Alhamdulillah, the PPRT Law (has) been passed. This is the fruit of prayer and a long struggle that never stops," said Nihayatul, Wednesday, April 22.

Nihayatul, who is familiarly called Ninik, said the enactment of the PPRT Law was the result of collective work and consistency of various elements of society who continue to fight for protection for domestic workers.

According to the Chairperson of the National Women's DPP, this success is inseparable from the political commitment of his party in guiding the aspirations of the community until it is realized in the form of policies that favor vulnerable groups.

According to Ninik, the long struggle is proof of consistency in fighting for the interests of the people will bear fruit.

"This is part of PKB's commitment to continue to be present and fight for groups that need stronger legal protection," he said.

Previously, the Minister of Manpower, Yassierli, stated that this regulation is a strategic step in providing comprehensive protection for domestic workers.

Through the PPRT Law, he said, domestic workers are now recognized as workers with equal rights, including the right to a decent wage, work and rest time arrangements, leave rights, and protection from discrimination and violence.

The ratification of this law is also expected to be a strong foundation in improving the welfare and legal protection of millions of domestic workers in Indonesia.
