JAKARTA - Minister of Health, Budi Gunadi Sadikin said the increase in COVID-19 cases in the number of areas had increased significantly. There are two areas mentioned by him, namely Kudus, Central Java, and Bangkalan, East Java.

The significant increase in cases in these two regions is evident due to the number of COVID-19 patients being hospitalized.

"In Kudus, before the hospital was filled to 40 then in the last 1.5 weeks it rose quite high to 350. Likewise in Bangkalan, which previously had 10 isolation beds filled now in 1.5 weeks, it rose to 70 to 80", said Budi in a press conference broadcast on the Presidential Secretariat's YouTube account, Monday, June 7.

He then explained this happened because of community activities in the two areas. "Specifically, this cluster is because it is a holy pilgrimage area, while in Bangkalan there are many migrant workers who return from neighboring countries", he said.

Furthermore, to deal with the increase in COVID-19 cases in these two regions, several things have been done. One of them is by referring severe and moderate patients to other nearby areas.

"What we have done is number one, which is the most important because it is a matter of our lives to unravel the pressure of the burden in the hospital by referring heavy and moderate patients to the nearest city. For Kudus, to Semarang, for Bangkalan to Surabaya", said Budi.

He said that the hospitals in these two cities were ready to receive referrals for COVID-19 patients from Kudus and Bangkalan.

"The hospital capacity in Surabaya and Semarang is sufficient to be able to receive referrals from Bangkalan and Kudus", he said.

In addition, Budi said the government had also sent additional health workers to Kudus and Bangkalan. "We have also sent doctors in collaboration with Indonesian Doctors Association and nurses with the Indonesian National Nurses Association to fill and reduce the pressure from health workers who are quite exposed in Kudus and Surabaya", he said.

Next, the government has also sent COVID-19 vaccinations to the two regions. For the Kudus area, the government has sent 50 thousand doses of the COVID-19 vaccine so that it can be immediately injected into the community.

As for the Bangkalan area, it will only be sent immediately with the same amount of vaccine doses.

"In Bangkalan we will drop immediately so we can reduce the risk of transmission", he concluded.
