Launch of the Book "Power That Helps", Sarmuji: Spiritual Reflection Behind Political Journey

JAKARTA - Secretary General of the Golkar Party DPP, Muhammad Sarmuji, launched a book entitled "Power That Helps" which contains reflections on spiritual journeys as well as his views on politics.

Sarmuji revealed that the book was one of three books he published. Two of them became his main works, including Helping Power.

"Yes, I published two books plus one. One is a memoir. But the two books, the first one is 'Power That Helps'," Sarmuji told reporters after launching his book at the DPR building, Senayan, Jakarta, Monday, April 20.

The chairman of the Golkar Faction revealed that the title of the book has a very deep personal meaning. "The Power That Helps is actually a translation of Sulthanan Nashira. That is the name of our son Muhammad Sutojoyo, Sulthanan Nashir," he said.

The name, continued Sarmuji, from the beginning became a reminder for him in the political world. He hopes that his presence in politics can be a force that benefits the community.

"In the past, I gave the name Sulthanan Nashir to be a reminder of me. I pre-established it to be the name of my child. Because at that time I had entered the political world. So I hope that my presence in the political world will be Sulthanan Nashira, a Helping Power. As my child, I named it," he explained.

However, Sarmuji revealed that his son had died after fighting against leukemia. Nevertheless, the value and meaning of the name he still holds as a principle of life.

"But yes, God has another plan, our son was called home because of leukemia. But his name is still kept in the heart and remains a reminder for me. To make politics into Sulthanan Nashira, to be a Helping Power or Power," he said.

"Hopefully I will still be given the strength to be on that path," added Sarmuji.

In the book, Sarmuji also explains the idea of politics as a means to help the people.

In the early part, he emphasized the concept of power that is in the public interest, while the following chapters contain his responses and views on various issues of citizenship that are developing in the DPR.

"If the book, from the first chapter, I explain about politics as a Helping Power. Then the following chapters are about my statements responding to the developing situation. Issues of popularism that are developing in the DPR and several issues that we respond to as secretary-general (DPP Golkar Party)," he said.

In the closing part, Sarmuji expressed the hope that his political career would leave a good mark for future generations, as the prayer of Prophet Ibrahim.

"The conclusion is that we hope that we will be politicians in a complete way, like the prayer of Prophet Ibrahim. The prayer of Prophet Ibrahim, "Ya Allah, make me a "waj'allii lisana shidqi fiil akhiriin". That's in the chapter of the conclusion. 'Make me a good fruit of speech for the generations that come later', "he said.

"Hopefully I as a politician will hopefully become a good fruit of speech for the next generation," concluded Sarmuji.
