PKB West Jakarta Strengthens Grass Roots, Targets Young Voters

JAKARTA - The West Jakarta National Awakening Party (PKB) Branch Board (DPC) emphasized the focus on strengthening political work based on the needs of the community in the West Jakarta PKB Branch Meeting (Muscab).

This forum is a momentum for internal consolidation as well as confirmation of the party's strategy direction at the city level, ranging from strengthening the role of cadres in the field to efforts to reach young voters.

Chairman of the West Jakarta PKB DPC, Ahmad Ruslan, said that public trust was not enough to be built through political narratives alone. He emphasized the importance of concrete work that is felt directly by the community.

"The main step we take is to ensure a real presence in the community, not only during political momentum. We encourage cadres to be active in assisting MSMEs, distributing targeted social assistance, and advocating for residents in various daily problems, ranging from access to public services to environmental issues," said Ruslan, Monday, April 20.

According to him, this approach is the key to maintaining the party's closeness to constituents, especially in urban areas with diverse problems.

On the other hand, PKB has also begun to shift its political approach to reach younger generations who are increasingly critical of political parties.

Deputy Chairman of the West Jakarta PKB DPC Uwais El Qoroni assessed that the old pattern of communication is no longer effective enough to attract the sympathy of young people.

"To attract the sympathy of young voters who are critical, PKB must prioritize involvement, not just a campaign. We encourage relevant programs such as the development of creative economy, job opportunities, and environmental issues that are of concern to the younger generation. In addition, an active presence in the digital space with transparent and inclusive communication is a must," explained Uwais.

He added that his party opened wider space for young people to be directly involved, not only as voters, but also in the decision-making process.

"We open up space for young people to be directly involved in the process of formulating policies and social activities. Most importantly, we must show a real track record, because young people do not easily believe in promises without evidence," said Uwais.

In addition to targeting young voters, the West Jakarta PKB also emphasizes the importance of the relevance of issues raised by the party to urban problems faced by residents on a daily basis.

"PKB must be present and relevant to urban issues such as transportation, affordable housing, pollution, to the digitization of public services. A community-based approach through citizen dialogue and collaboration with various local elements will strengthen this closeness. Consistency between messages and actions is the main factor in building public trust," he added.
