KPK reminded not to chop and choose in prosecuting thousands of forwarding companies

JAKARTA - The case of alleged bribery at the Directorate General of Customs and Excise (DJBC) has again become the focus of public attention. The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) is urged not to pick and choose in cracking down on forwarder companies suspected of being involved in the practice of corruption.

Lawyer Dinalara D. Butar-Butar emphasized that the number of forwarder companies in Indonesia reached more than 1,500, so that enforcement should not only target one party.

"There are more than 1,500 forwarder companies, only one is being taken action? All of them should be thoroughly checked," said Dinalara Saat when contacted, Saturday, April 18.

According to him, unequal law enforcement has the potential to cause injustice as well as not solving the root of the problem in the customs system.

The hand-in-hand operation (OTT) carried out by the KPK in the DJBC environment again showed a pattern of repetition. An official who had just taken office in a matter of days was immediately dragged into a case of alleged bribery related to imports and the management of illegal funds.

The investigators' findings also revealed indications of the use of safe houses, regular funding flows, and the involvement of cross-departmental networks that were allegedly long-running.

This condition has sparked criticism of the law enforcement approach, which still focuses on individuals, not on the system that allows these practices to continue.

Systemic Indication, Not Just an Individual Case State counterintelligence specialist, Gautama Wiranegara, assessed that this case could not be seen as an individual act. He said that there was a system that had been formed and running consistently.

"New officials who enter do not start from scratch. They enter a system that already has patterns, networks, and operational mechanisms," he explained.
