JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government has requested the suspension of all demolition and renovation activities at Jalan Teuku Umar Number 2, Menteng, Central Jakarta, because it is located in a cultural heritage area that must go through an official recommendation.
Head of the DKI Jakarta Cultural Service, Mochamad Miftahulloh Tamary, emphasized that every work on a cultural heritage building must receive a Restoration Recommendation from the Cultural Service.
"The Culture Service has made appeals to stop demolition and renovation work before there is a recommendation for restoration," said Miftahulloh, Friday, April 17.
He explained that the Central Jakarta Sub-Department of Construction, Spatial Planning, and Land (Citata) had also summoned the contractor on Thursday, April 16. As a result, the contractor committed to coordinating with the Culture Department to handle permits.
Previously, the DKI Provincial Government had sent a notification letter to the TNI Commander through the TNI Logistics Assistant and the Director of PT Temasra Jaya since March 17, 2026. The letter was issued because the status of the building as a cultural heritage.
However, on the ground, construction activities are still underway. The lawyer for PT Temasra Jaya, Petrus Selestinus, stated that his party found the installation of a board that read "Heritage Building is being Renovated" as well as the installation of a light steel roof frame that was suspected to be without a permit.
"There is a suspicion of disobedience to the law because the activity continues even though there is a letter of termination from the DKI Provincial Government," said Petrus.
He also said that his party had twice sent a summons to the TNI Headquarters to stop activities at the location, but did not get a response.
Petrus emphasized that the land and building are the legitimate property of PT Temasra Jaya with proof of the Building Use Rights Certificate (SHGB), not the property of the TNI or the Ministry of Defense. Therefore, he assessed that the presence of TNI personnel at the location could be categorized as an alleged encroachment and destruction.
His party plans to report the alleged case to the TNI Military Police Center (Puspom) for legal processing.
"We ask the TNI Headquarters to stop actions that violate the law and set a good example, because Indonesia is a country of law," said Petrus.
The DKI Provincial Government emphasized that it would continue to monitor the handling of this case in accordance with the provisions of the preservation of cultural heritage, while ensuring that all parties comply with applicable regulations.
