SEMARANG - The Semarang Corruption Court sentenced two former District Secretaries (Sekda) of Klaten Regency, Jaka Sawaldi and Jajang Prihono, to two years in prison in the corruption case of the management of the Klaten Plaza, an asset of the Klaten Regency Government, Central Java.
The verdict read by Chief Judge Rommel Franciskus Tampubolon in the trial was lighter than the public prosecutor's demand for 5 years in prison.
In addition to the body's punishment, the judge also imposed a fine of Rp. 50 million which, if not paid, will be replaced with imprisonment for 50 days.
"The defendant is found guilty of violating Article 603 of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code," he said, as reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, April 15.
Both defendants were also sentenced to pay compensation for state losses, each of Rp1 million.
The criminal act itself began when PT Matahari Makmur Sejahtera applied for the management of Plaza Klaten to the Klaten Regency Government in 2020.
Jaka Salwadi is the Klaten Regent for the period 2016 to 2021, while Jajang Prihono is the Klaten Regent for the period 2022 to 2025.
The two defendants allegedly agreed to the management of the Klaten Plaza by PT Matahari Makmur Sejahtera without an auction process.
The defendant's actions resulted in the state suffering a loss of IDR 1.8 billion, which is the difference between the rental income obtained by PT MMS and that deposited into the Klaten Regency local treasury.
In his consideration, the judge also stated that the defendant Jaka Sawaldi was not proven to have received Rp310 million from the Director of PT MNS in connection with the lease agreement for the Klaten Plaza building.
"In terms of the defendant receiving Rp350 million in the secretary of state's room, the public prosecutor cannot prove it," he said.
Regarding the verdict, both the public prosecutor and the defendant are still thinking.
