BENGKULU - The Bengkulu Provincial Government (Pemprov) has distributed 2,000 doses of vaccine in the local area to prevent the spread of rabies.
"Distribution is carried out gradually with priority in high-risk areas," said Head of the Animal Husbandry and Animal Health Service of Bengkulu Province, Abdul Hadi in Bengkulu City, Antara, Wednesday, April 15.
He said that as many as 2,000 rabies vaccines were part of the central government allocation which reached a total of 8,000 vaccines for Bengkulu Province. The distribution of vaccines is carried out gradually and adjusted to the needs of each area.
With the distribution of the vaccine, he said, it is hoped that it can reduce the risk of rabies transmission, especially in transmissible animals such as dogs, cats, and monkeys which are the main source of transmission to humans.
He said the number of vaccines from the central government was the initial stage to reach the animal population in the Bengkulu Province area.
For this reason, his party will propose again to add the allocation of rabies vaccines to the central government so that the vaccination program can run more optimally.
"We will continue to work to increase the number of vaccines, the proposal will be made again so that the vaccination coverage can be wider and more even in all regions," he said.
Abdul said the rabies vaccine distributed was free to encourage active participation of the community to vaccinate pets.
He appealed to the public who have pets to bring them to animal health officers in their respective areas to get vaccinated.
"The government targets that rabies control can be carried out more optimally, while protecting the community from the threat of a dangerous disease," he said.
He added that in 2026 the Bengkulu Provincial Government had also budgeted Rp. 100 million from the regional budget to procure an additional 5,000 doses of rabies vaccine.
Meanwhile, the Bengkulu Provincial Government also received an allocation of vaccines for foot and mouth disease (FMD) from the central government of 19,500 doses which will be distributed to all districts and cities according to the needs and livestock population.
However, the Bengkulu Provincial Government prioritizes areas prone to cases of FMD such as Seluma Regency, Mukomuko Regency, and Central Bengkulu Regency.
