Minister of Agriculture Guarantees National Rice Stock is Safe in the Middle of the Godzilla El Nino Phenomenon

JAKARTA - Minister of Agriculture (Mentan) Andi Amran Sulaiman guarantees that national rice stocks are sufficient amid the potential threat of the Godzilla El Nino phenomenon that hit Indonesia in 2026.

"The stock this morning was 4.7 million tons and it was the highest during the Independent Republic of Indonesia," said Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman in Padang Pariaman Regency, West Sumatra (Sumbar), Tuesday, quoted by Antara.

This was conveyed by the Minister of Agriculture when he directly reviewed the progress of handling agricultural land affected by disasters in Lubuk Alung Sub-district, Padang Pariaman Regency, West Sumatra.

In addition to the 4.7 million tons of stock in the Bulog warehouse, the Minister of Agriculture said that there was also a supply of 12 million tons in restaurants, plus standing crops of about 11 million tons. Cumulatively, this supply is sufficient for the next 10 months.

"The drought is six months, so it's safe, right? That's how to calculate it," he said.

Therefore, Minister of Agriculture Andi urged the public not to panic in response to the potential threat of the Godzilla El Nino phenomenon.

At the same time, the government through related ministries and agencies is also continuing to anticipate the impact of this natural phenomenon so that it does not have too much impact on the agricultural sector.

Previously, the Deputy for Regional Development of Bappenas RI Medrilzam when visiting Padang City reminded the local government to anticipate the impact of Godzilla El Nino which has the potential to hit Indonesia in 2026.

Medrilzam said the potential of Godzilla El Nino after world meteorological experts conveyed the threat of the phenomenon, which could have an impact on various sectors, especially agriculture.

In addition to the agricultural sector, Bappenas also reminded all local governments to prepare anticipatory steps related to the potential for forest and land fires (karhutla) and drought as a result of the natural phenomenon.
