JAKARTA - The Iranian Revolutionary Guard (IRGC) on Monday (13/4) warned that "no port in the Gulf and the Sea of Oman will be safe" after the United States imposed a ship traffic blockade to and from Iranian ports through the Strait of Hormuz.

"Security of ports in the Gulf and the Sea of Oman must apply to all parties or not at all," the IRGC said in a statement broadcast on Iran's state television, IRIB, as reported by ANTARA from Anadolu.

The Iranian armed forces, according to the statement, consider defending the country's legal rights as a legitimate obligation, including the implementation of sovereignty over territorial waters.

"Ships affiliated with the enemy" will be banned from crossing the Strait of Hormuz, while other ships can pass through according to Iranian regulations.

The IRGC also stated that Iran would implement a permanent mechanism to control the Strait of Hormuz, even after the war.

"The restrictions imposed by the United States on maritime movements in international waters are illegal and equivalent to piracy," the statement said.

Previously, the US stated that it would impose a blockade on Iranian ports starting Monday at 14.00 GMT (21.00 WIB).

The move came after direct talks between the US and Iran in Islamabad, Pakistan, on Saturday ended without an agreement.
