Lampung - The Lampung Police Narcotics Investigation Directorate has uncovered a case of alleged narcotics crimes of 15.7 kilograms of methamphetamine in the Seaport area of Bakauheni Port, South Lampung Regency.

"In the disclosure, officers secured four suspects with initials RN, VR, TS, and EC. The four of them are known to be residents of Tangerang with a background of self-employed work," said Head of Narcotics Reserse Polda Lampung Kombes Dwi Handono Prasanto as reported by ANTARA, Friday, April 10.

He said the disclosure of the case began with public information regarding the alleged smuggling of narcotics from Sumatra Island to Java Island by using ambulance vehicles.

Following up on this information, he said, the Lampung Police Narcotics Sub-Directorate 1 operational team monitored the four-wheeled ambulance vehicle which was suspected of crossing to Java Island.

"During the inspection in the Bakauheni Port Seaport area, officers found a unit of a Daihatsu Luxio ambulance with the police number B 1737 CIS passing. In the vehicle, no patients were found, but four healthy men," he said.

The suspicion of the officers was strengthened after the four people showed nervous behavior during the initial examination. The officers then conducted a search in the cabin of the vehicle and found one bag containing 15 packages of suspected narcotics of the type of methamphetamine.

"The evidence was found hidden under the back seat of the ambulance. From the results of the weighing, the total weight of the seized methamphetamine reached 15,739 grams," he said.

In addition to methamphetamine, he said, officers also seized four Android mobile phones and one Daihatsu Luxio ambulance vehicle used to transport the illegal goods.

Based on the results of the initial investigation, the suspect VR is suspected of acting as the driver of an ambulance appointed to pick up the patient. Meanwhile, RN, TS, and EC are suspected of playing a role in carrying 15 packages of methamphetamine from the Riau-Jambi border area to Tangerang.

"From the initial information, the suspects are said to have received a road money of Rp. 300 thousand. In addition, the other three suspects were also promised wages ranging from Rp. 10 million to Rp. 15 million," he said.

He said the economic value of the evidence that was successfully confiscated was estimated at around Rp. 22.5 billion. From this amount, the authorities estimate that around 60 thousand people can be saved from drug abuse.

For their actions, the suspects were charged with Article 114 paragraph (2) of Law Number 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics in conjunction with related provisions in the Criminal Code and adjustment of criminal penalties. They were also charged with Article 132 paragraph (1) of Law Number 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics along with other related articles.

"The suspects are threatened with the death penalty, life imprisonment, or a maximum of 20 years in prison. Currently, the four suspects have been secured at the Lampung Police Headquarters to undergo further investigation," he said.
