Iranian Delegation Arrives in Pakistan's Islamabad, Ready for Ceasefire Negotiations with the US

JAKARTA - The Iranian delegation arrived in Islamabad, Pakistan on Thursday night, April 9 local time. They arrived in Islamabad to follow up on the US-Iran ceasefire that both parties had previously announced.

The Wall Street Journal quoted a source familiar with the matter as reporting that the delegation was led by Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Iran's Parliament Speaker Mohammad-Bagher Ghalibaf.

Pakistani officials have yet to provide details regarding the US-Iranian ceasefire negotiation meeting in Islamabad, which was scheduled to be held today, Friday, April 10. They argued that they were maintaining the security of the delegates and only confirmed that preparations were going well.

"Our priority is for the talks to go well," an official involved in preparations said on Friday, April 10, quoted by The Guardian.

"We don't want to be seen as spoilers. Our role is as a facilitator and mediator. We will leave it to both parties, Iran and the US, to share any developments with the media if they want," he continued.

The official confirmed that the main delegates are scheduled to arrive on Thursday evening and Friday morning.

From the US side, the White House confirmed that their negotiating team departing for Islamabad will be led by US Vice President JD Vance accompanied by special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.

Iranian officials said that in addition to the delegation that had arrived as part of the ceasefire negotiations, senior figures from the Iranian Revolutionary Guard (IRGC) were also expected to attend.

Officials said delegations from Middle Eastern countries, including Qatar and Saudi Arabia, which host US military assets under fire from Iran, would also depart for Islamabad and may participate in talks on the sidelines of the meeting.

Due to the high security risks, Pakistani officials confirmed that there are three to four places that may be used for an important meeting between Iran and the US.
