JAKARTA - A joint team from the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) and the Metro Jaya Police arrested four swindlers who claimed to be employees and could secure the case. The arrest was made in West Jakarta on Thursday evening, April 9.
"Four people who allegedly claimed to be KPK employees and can arrange the handling of cases at the KPK," said KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo to reporters through a written statement, Friday, April 10.
Budi said the four people admitted that they were messengers of the anti-corruption commission leadership. "Who was ordered to ask for money from members of the DPR," he said.
This request, continued Budi, was not the first time it had been made. When the arrest was made, the joint team found $17,400 in a house.
"It is suspected that this request is not the first time," he said without specifying who the members of parliament who gave money were.
Currently, the four swindlers have been taken to the Polda Metro Jaya for further investigation. The KPK reminded the ranks in ministries, agencies, local governments, SOEs, BUMD and the public to be careful with this kind of modus.
Budi said all parties could report this kind of allegation. "The KPK appeals to all levels in ministries, agencies, local governments, SOEs, BUMD, and various other elements of society, to always be vigilant and careful with various modus operandi by individuals who claim to be KPK employees and commit criminal acts, fraud, extortion, or those who claim to be able to arrange cases at the KPK," he explained.
"The KPK invites the public who knows about these methods to immediately report to the local law enforcement agencies or to the KPK through the 198 call center, so that it can be immediately followed up," he continued.
Budi said his employees would definitely use official identities and be equipped with assignment letters. "KPK employees are also prohibited from promising or accepting, let alone asking for rewards in any form. So it is not true if there are parties who promise to 'handle' a case that is handled by the KPK," he said.
"KPK has never appointed any organization or institution as an 'extension of hand', partner, consultant, lawyer, or representative of the KPK. The KPK has also never issued or cooperated with media that uses the name KPK or is similar to the KPK."
