Cyclonic Circulation Strengthens Convergence, BMKG: Heavy Rain Intensifies in Indonesia

JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has identified the emergence of two cyclonic circulation points in Indonesian waters which trigger a significant increase in the growth of rain clouds in most parts of Indonesia.

BMKG practitioner, Masayu, quoted by Antara, Friday, April 10, explained that the circulation point is expected to be formed in the Indian Ocean in the southwest of Banten and in the Banda Sea area.

This cyclonic circulation system increases the potential for rain cloud growth in its vicinity, as well as strengthening the convergence area that extends from South Sumatra to West Papua.

The convergence area or meeting of air masses is observed to extend from the Indian Ocean in the west of Lampung to the south of West Java, as well as from the Maluku Sea to the Banda Sea, which directly expands the coverage area affected by rain.

BMKG predicts that the impact of this atmospheric phenomenon will trigger heavy to very heavy rain in a number of provinces, including West Java, Central Java, East Java, Yogyakarta, Central Sulawesi, to Maluku.

In addition to heavy rain, BMKG also provides early warning of the potential for rain accompanied by lightning that is predicted to hit major cities such as Bandung, Pangkal Pinang, Banjarmasin, and Ambon.

The weather conditions in the eastern Indonesian region are generally expected to be light to moderate rain, while for the Makassar region it is predicted to experience smoke or fog phenomena that have the potential to reduce visibility.
