UN Nuclear Watchdog Ready to Back US-Iran Long-Term Ceasefire

JAKARTA - The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) or the United Nations Nuclear Supervisory Agency has stated that it is ready to support a long-term ceasefire solution that includes Iran's nuclear program.

IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi said the effort should be carried out as part of the UN Nuclear Supervisory Agency's welcome to the ceasefire agreement between Iran and the US, which was mediated by Pakistan.

"IAEA Director General Grossi welcomed the return of diplomacy aimed at negotiating a settlement on key issues including Iran's nuclear program," the UN Nuclear Watchdog said in a statement on Wednesday, April 8, quoted by Al Jazeera.

Grossi said his party was ready to support the continued ceasefire agreement by playing the same role as before by setting nuclear safety standards and facilitating the transfer of nuclear technology for public purposes such as medicine and agriculture.

"The IAEA stands ready to support these efforts through its indispensable security and verification role," the statement continued.
