South Korea Holds Emergency Meeting After North Korea Launches Ballistic Missile

JAKARTA - The South Korean presidential office held an emergency meeting on Wednesday (8/4) to assess the security situation after North Korea's ballistic missile launch.

The South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff (South Korea) said North Korea (North Korea) launched several ballistic missiles towards the Sea of Japan on Wednesday, April 8, as well as an unidentified projectile on Tuesday.

South Korea considers the launch a provocation and a violation of UN Security Council resolutions, and calls on North Korea to immediately stop such actions.

Yonhap news agency reported that the Joint Chiefs of Staff noted that the short-range ballistic missile launched by North Korea flew about 240 kilometers.

The launch is the fourth confirmed this year.

Meanwhile, Japanese Chief Cabinet Secretary Minoru Kihara said Japan had not detected any North Korean missiles crossing its territory.
