Ferdian Paleka In Prison Prison Culture

JAKARTA - YouTuber from Bandung, Ferdian Paleka has been behind bars over a case of video content distribution of fake aid which is considered immoral. However, after only a day in the Bandung Polrestabes detention center, he immediately received hazing by other prisoners.

The hazing experienced by Ferdian and some of his colleagues went viral on social media. In the video, Ferdian Cs is seen being forced into a trash can. The video also contains insulting sentences for Ferdian and friends.

In addition, they are also forced to squat jumps and push ups. In fact, at the end of the recording that was circulating, Ferdian was hit by a prisoner on the back.

Kasat Reskrim Polrestabes Bandung AKBP Galih Indragiri confirmed the hazing incident. According to him, the bullying of Ferdian and his colleagues was initiated by a prisoner, Ganjar Anjani, on Friday, May 8.

In addition, Ganjar is also a recorder and uploader of the hazing video to social media. As a result of his action, the other prisoners became involved in working on Ferdian.

"It's true (hazing), it happened around 22.30 WIB. A prisoner named Ganjar did it and uploaded it to his Facebook account," Galih told VOI, Sunday, May 10.

From a temporary examination, the motive for the hazing was because some prisoners did not like Ferdian's actions with the fake aid distribution video content. Then, said Galih, in that incident his party also examined the officers guarding the detention center. Not only related to hazing, the examination is also a matter of using cell phones in detention centers.

"Examining all personnel guarding detention including Kasat Tahti (Head of the Detention and Evidence Unit)," said Galih.

Currently Ferdian and two of his colleagues, Aidil and Tubagus have been transferred to another detention cell. This was done to prevent the same thing from happening again.

Prison culture

University of Indonesia criminologist Adrianus Meliala said hazing in prisons is nothing new. Such incidents often occur in all remand centers or prisons (prisons).

New prisoners will experience hazing, usually in order for them to comply with the rules made by the old prisoners. Apart from that, hazing has also become a culture that keeps on happening over and over again.

"Indeed, it often happens. New prisoners are tricked by prisoners who have entered first. Especially for perpetrators of immoral crimes, they are definitely bullied. It's a kind of culture," said Adrianus.

In fact, it is said, officers guarding the detention center actually know about hazing. However, they seemed to close their eyes to this. For that, investigators must examine detention officers in order to find out what the real cause is.

In addition, to stop hazing in detention centers, the National Police must improve the security system. The officers appointed as prisoner supervisors must be consistent.

"The guards must be firm and consistent," concluded Adrianus.
