JAKARTA - The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) said that measles immunization for medical and health personnel (nakes) will be given immediately after the party received clarification from the Food and Drug Supervisory Agency (BPOM) regarding the efficacy study of measles vaccine for adults.

"So this vaccination is the most important thing, the indication letter. It is for children, but there is actually a study for adults. We ask for clarification from BPOM first, this vaccination does have an efficacy study for adults," said Deputy Minister of Health (Wamenkes) Dante Saksono Harbuwono as reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, April 1.

The Minister of Health Dante said that after receiving the relevant response from BPOM, his party would immediately carry out measles immunization for medical personnel and health workers who have a high risk of contracting the disease.

Initially, he said, the Ministry of Health would choose 10 priority areas, namely areas with the highest cases, namely South Tangerang, Tangerang, Bima, Palembang, Pandeglang, West Jakarta, Depok, Palu, Serang, and Central Jakarta.

"After high vaccination, we evaluate whether there is a potential to spread to other areas," said WamenkesDante.

Apart from vaccination, he said, the most important thing is communication, information, and education, about clean and healthy lifestyles for medical personnel and health workers.

"How to wash your hands properly, how to always wear a mask when you check. We will communicate this again to health workers and to the public," said WamenkesDante.

Previously, the Ministry of Health said that it would provide measles vaccination to health workers and health workers who are at risk of measles.

"Is there a vaccination plan? Yes, we will go there. And quickly we also prepare an analysis rather than the vaccine test, the clinical trial, related to the vaccine program currently used," said Acting. Director General of Disease Control at the Ministry of Health Andi Saguni in Jakarta, Monday.

According to the Ministry of Health data, eight percent of measles cases occur in adults, although most of them occur in toddlers.

Andi explained that if you have received measles and rubella immunizations twice, at the age of 18 months and at the age of 1st grade SD, the protection is already optimal.

However, in adults, he said, there are other conditions that can affect, for example, weak immunity, HIV/AIDS sufferers, or suffering from chronic diseases such as diabetes, cancer, and hypertension.

"And of course the intensity of exposure to measles. Especially health workers are also a risk factor," he said.

In addition to surveillance and vaccination, his party has also recently issued a Circular Letter (SE) as an effort to protect health workers and medical personnel from measles.
