Mayor Eri Cahyadi Encourages Digital Economy In Surabaya

SURABAYA - Surabaya Mayor Eri Cahyadi encourages the digital economy as an effort to accelerate economic recovery in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Eri Cahyadi welcomes the support and cooperation with various parties in promoting the digital economy, one of which is Grab or an all-in-one application with operations throughout Southeast Asia.

"We really appreciate Grab's initiative in helping the government's efforts to encourage the digital economy in Surabaya," he said, quoted by Antara, Friday, June 4.

According to him, through various innovations and technologies from Grab, it is hoped that it can have a positive impact on the City of Surabaya in supporting the digitization of local MSMEs, and also supporting various tourist destinations.

"We also hope that this collaboration can accelerate economic recovery in Surabaya which is also in line with the vision and mission of the Surabaya City Government to work together towards an advanced, humanist, and sustainable Surabaya, including strengthening competitiveness and the local economy," continued Eri Cahyadi.

Eri said the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Surabaya City Government and Grab was carried out on May 31, 2021. The scope of this collaboration includes the development of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), as well as tourism development and promotion.

Through this collaboration, the technology presented by Grab will help the government develop various sectors so that the wheels of the Surabaya economy continue to move.

Director of East Indonesia Grab Indonesia Halim Wijaya explained Grab's commitment to ensuring more people can enjoy the benefits of the digital economy. According to him, the development of the digital economy has the potential to be felt by all levels of society in Indonesia, including in the midst of a pandemic.

"Grab is happy and proud to be collaborating with the city government to present various initiatives to support the digital economy in Surabaya," he said.

By utilizing Grab's inclusive technology, as well as improving skills, as well as providing more opportunities for the people of Surabaya, Grab hopes to continue to help develop MSMEs, tourism, and transportation facilities in Surabaya.

"This is important to help the Surabaya City government to realize an inclusive economy in improving people's welfare and opening new jobs," he said.
