PDIP Calls for Unity of Indonesian Political Forces to Demand Justice for TNI Personnel Killed in Lebanon

JAKARTA - The Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) invites all parties to unite to demand justice for Praka Farizal Rhomadhon who died while carrying out a world peace mission under the flag of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL). He reportedly died due to an incident involving the Israeli military (IDF) and the Hezbollah group on Sunday, March 29.

This was conveyed by PDIP through an official statement issued today, March 30. The external letter was issued by PDIP DPP Chairman Ahmad Basarah and PDIP Secretary General Hasto Kristiyanto.

"Inviting all national political forces to unite and work together in demanding justice for fallen soldiers," he quoted from the statement.

PDIP through its written statement urged certainty regarding the safety of 1,200 TNI soldiers serving in Lebanon. This party with the bull symbol also condemned the actions of any party that resulted in the loss of lives among UN peacekeepers.

"Attacks on peacekeepers are a serious violation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701 and international humanitarian law," they said.

Furthermore, PDIP supports UNIFIL to open an independent investigation. "And urges that the results be presented transparently to the public and the UN Security Council."

Finally, PDIP encourages the Indonesian government to take a leadership role among troop-contributing countries. This step is important to strengthen the protection regime for UN peacekeepers, "including through a review of more protective Rules of Engagement."

On that occasion, PDIP Chairman Megawati Soekarnoputri expressed condolences to Praka Farizal Romadhon. He has instructed all party officials to give the best respect.

"As well as proposing to the state to give posthumous promotions, old age guarantees, and the future of his children's education."

"The PDI Perjuangan family will also work together to help the victim's family, including providing house compensation or scholarships for his son who is currently only two years old."

As previously reported, Foreign Minister (Menlu) Sugiono expressed deep condolences for the death of Praka Farizal Rhomadhon who was on duty in the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) peace mission in Lebanon. He also strongly condemned Israel's attack in southern Lebanon which caused casualties.

This incident also left three soldiers injured. Based on the report of the Head of the TNI Information Center, Major General Aulia Dwi Narsullah, one of the seriously injured soldiers was Praka Rico Pramudia and the one who suffered minor injuries was Praka Bayu Prakoso and Praka Arif Kurniawan.
