JAKARTA - Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi on Monday urged the President to stop the war against Iran, saying only the Republican politician could do it, warning that concerns that oil prices would exceed $200 a barrel were not exaggerated.
"I say to President Trump: no one can stop the war in our Gulf region except you," President el-Sisi said at the 'Egypt Energy Show 2026' conference in Cairo, launching Al Arabiya and Reuters (30/3).
"Please, Mr. President, please. Please help us stop the war. You can do it," he added.
Egypt is known to have also condemned Iran's attacks on Gulf Arab states and encouraged diplomatic efforts to avoid a wider regional war.
It is known that the US and Israel launched an attack on Iran on February 28, killing more than 1,340 people, including the late Supreme Leader of Iran Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, triggering tensions in the Middle East.
In response, the State of the Mullahs retaliated with drone strikes and missiles targeting Israel, along with Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf states hosting US military assets, causing casualties and infrastructure damage and disrupting global markets and flights, including tight control of the vital Strait of Hormuz through which 20 percent of the world's crude oil and liquefied natural gas pass.
"The war will trigger two shocks in the form of supply shortages and price increases, the effects of which have not yet been fully felt," President el-Sisi told the conference.
"I am concerned that targeting energy facilities, both production and refineries, will have a very serious impact on the global economy and fuel prices," he said.
Market observers have warned "the price of a barrel of oil could reach more than $200 and this is not an exaggeration," added President el-Sisi.
Furthermore, he also warned of a crisis that threatens global food supplies, noting that disruptions to fertilizer exports would have a major impact on prices.
"Rich countries may be able to absorb it, but for middle-income countries and fragile economies, it can have a very, very severe impact on their stability," he said.
