JAKARTA - The reverse flow of the 2026 Lebaran Transportation still shows a high trend. PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) recorded at least 202,279 long-distance train customers will travel on Sunday, March 29, 2026.

Based on booking data until 10.00 WIB, the temporary occupancy rate has even reached 123.8 percent and still has the potential to increase as ticket sales continue.

KAI Corporate Communication Vice President Anne Purba said passenger movements this year tend to be more spread out, not just concentrated on one or two peak days.

"Since mid-March, the volume of customers has continued to rise and is currently still in the reverse flow phase. Trains remain the choice because of the definite travel schedule and comfort during the journey," Anne said in a statement, March 29.

Cumulatively, ticket sales during the Lebaran Transportation period have also exceeded the capacity provided. As of March 29, 2026 at 10.00 WIB, tickets sold reached 4,808,151 out of a total capacity of 4,498,696 seats or equivalent to 106.9 percent.

If detailed, long-distance train passengers dominate with 4,048,682 customers or 113.4 percent of capacity. Meanwhile, local trains recorded 759,469 customers or 81.9 percent of the total available seats.

This surge in passenger volume has occurred gradually since the beginning of the Lebaran transportation period on March 11, 2026. Peak density is seen in the reverse phase, especially in the range of March 22 to 24, when the daily number of long-distance train passengers exceeds 240 thousand people.

KAI emphasized that occupancy above 100 percent does not mean that there is excess capacity physically in one trip.

"In one series of journeys, customers get on and off at various stations so that one seat can be used by more than one customer in a different relationship," he explained.

In the midst of high demand, KAI appeals to the public to consider alternative schedules and travel relationships that are still available. The company also offers a Silaturahmi Promo in the form of a 20 percent discount on executive class tickets in the period from March 25 to April 1, 2026.

A number of trains with high booking rates during the Lebaran season include the Joglosemarkerto train, the Airlangga train, the Sri Tanjung train, the Bengawan train, the Kahuripan train, the Rajabasa train, and the Jayakarta train.
