JAKARTA - Member of Commission D of the DKI Jakarta DPRD, Ida Mahmuda, supports the steps of the Environment Service (LH) which closed the landfill or temporary waste shelter (TPS) at the Tanah Kusir TPU, South Jakarta.

According to Ida, the policy is not only a response to citizen complaints, but can also be the starting point for improving the waste management system, especially at the TB Simatupang segment waste screening facility, which is now the location of the transfer.

"I agree and strongly support that the TPS, which is indeed disturbing the community or disturbing the environment, can be moved to Simatupang, but indeed Simatupang needs expansion and equipment that must be added, and indeed it is one of the concerns of the service that must be done," Ida told reporters, Friday, March 27.

He assessed that the optimization of large-capacity waste management facilities needs to be expanded at a number of other points. This step is considered to be able to reduce the existence of small-scale waste treatment plants which often cause aesthetic and odor problems in residential areas.

"This can also be done at several points where we have larger management that can be maximized, so that there are not too many polling stations that make the scenery less nice or the smell is not good," he said.

Ida highlighted the limitations of land owned by local governments, which often become obstacles in the construction of waste treatment facilities in accordance with central government regulations. Therefore, the cooperation scheme is considered a realistic option.

"Talking about the DKI Government, it is difficult to have land that complies with the provisions or does not disturb the community. If there is a private sector, the DKI Government should be able to work together to build it, whether it is a rental system or a cooperation system, I think this can be done for the condition and situation of Bantargebang, especially yesterday's landslide. This should be done," explained Ida.

The Environment Service (DLH) officially stopped the operation of the landfill or temporary waste shelter in the river body of the Tanah Kusir TPU area, South Jakarta.

This closure was carried out after the activities at the location attracted public attention and went viral on social media. DLH stated that this step was part of an evaluation of the management of waste management, especially waste management in water bodies.

"Starting today, we are closing the existing embankment at the Tanah Kusir TPU. Furthermore, we will carry out repairs and ensure that the embankments on the riverbanks are arranged and closed gradually," said Head of the DKI Jakarta DLH Asep Kuswanto at the Tanah Kusir TPU, South Jakarta.

DLH also plans to rearrange the disposal system at other locations along the riverbanks. The repairs are carried out to minimize environmental impacts while preventing waste from entering the water flow.

"The existence of this landfill is to accelerate waste handling in water bodies. However, we will continue to evaluate its management so that it is more organized and environmentally friendly," he said.
