KPK Prosecutor Refuses Transfer of Detention of Non-Active Riau Governor Abdul Wahid

PEKANBARU - The public prosecutor from the Corruption Eradication Commission rejected the request of the legal advisor of the non-active Governor of Riau Abdul Wahid regarding the transfer of detention from the State Detention House or Sialang Bungkuk Detention Center, Pekanbaru, to house arrest.

KPK prosecutor Meyer Volmar Simanjuntakpadasidang perdana di Pengadilan Tindak Pidana Korupsi pada Pengadilan Negeri Pekanbaru, mengatakan saat ini penanganan tersebut telah beralih kepada ketua majelis hakim. Namun, jika diminta saran dan pendapat, pihaknya menyatakan keberatan.

"The transfer of the detainee with several considerations if the reference is the medical reason, during the investigation period of more than four months we have never found any worrying medical history from Mr. Abdul Wahid. This means that the defendants are healthy and healthy as they are today," he said as reported by ANTARA, Thursday, March 26.

Therefore, said Mayer, if in the course of the medical journey there are things that must be treated, they will be given through the detention center. This in no way reduces the handling of the defendant Abdul Wahid.

Regarding the comparison with other cases, he said that it was not a precedent because it had been decided that it was final and binding for all activities.

Regarding the case by case, his party will not respond because it is in a different realm from investigators and public prosecutors.

Previously, Abdul Wahid's legal advisor, Kemal Shahab, conveyed that his client wanted to submit a letter of request for transfer of detention from Pekanbaru Class I Detention Center to house arrest. This is based on the provisions set out in Article 18 paragraph 5 and Article 108 paragraph 11 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.

"Also consider the precedent of one of the suspects of corruption at the KPK on behalf of Yaqut Cholil Qoumas who was recently granted permission to be a house prisoner on the grounds of noble health," he said.

He added that Abdul Wahid's medical record was attached to the application letter and a letter of guarantee from the family as well as other requirements stipulated in the provisions of the Criminal Procedure Code.

Meanwhile, the Chief Judge of Delta Tamtama said he could not answer this at this time. "If that's the case, we can't answer now," he said.
