Jakarta - Home Minister Tito Karnavian said 99 percent of disaster refugees in Sumatra (Aceh, North Sumatra, West Sumatra) have moved out of evacuation tents and are now living in temporary housing (huntara) built by the government.
Tito, who also serves as the Head of the Task Force (Satgas) for the Acceleration of Post-disaster Rehabilitation and Reconstruction of Sumatra, said the number of refugees who had moved to the huntara was calculated based on the latest data compared to the end of 2025.
This was conveyed by Tito Karnavian at a press conference, Wednesday, March 25. Furthermore, Tito said the government never said that 100 percent of residents had left the evacuation tents and moved to the huntara.
Because, there are still less than 1 percent who survive due to several factors. Tito explained that some of the refugees who are still in tents are due to access difficulties, especially because the location is in the interior. Some others still stay because they do not want to move to huntara.
