JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung responded to complaints from residents who had flat tires after parking their vehicles in the Monas area, specifically on Jalan Medan Merdeka Selatan during the Lebaran holiday a few days ago.
Pramono revealed that the area around Monas has been one of the points that has been widely used for illegal parking, especially on weekends or national holidays. The existence of unofficial parking is considered to disrupt traffic order as well as harm road users.
Pramono emphasized that the regulation of illegal parking by removing the tire valve of vehicles by officers was indeed in accordance with his instructions. He ordered the officers to continue the regulation firmly and not just temporarily.
"For parking attendants and also the events at Monas, I ask that they continue and take firm action because we ask that Jakarta provide order for that," said Pramono at the DKI Jakarta City Hall, Wednesday, March 25.
According to him, handling illegal parking is not enough just to discipline vehicles on the ground. Enforcement must also target parties involved in the practice, including illegal parking attendants.
"Including I also personally called directly to the Mayor of Central Jakarta for those behind Grand Indonesia which have been cleaned, must continue, not half-hearted anymore," said Pramono.
Previously, a video showing residents who were about to go home after visiting the Monas area went viral on social media. He showed a line of cars parked on the shoulder of the road, where almost all vehicles had flat tires at the same time.
In the recording, the voice recorder can be heard protesting and being confused by the Jakarta Transportation Service (Dishub). He questioned why the tire impoundment action was carried out en masse against the cars in the area. According to him, this action makes it very difficult for visitors who want to go home.
Vehicle owners are busy around their cars. Some are unpacking the luggage to pick up the tire serep, some are installing jacks, and some can only stand staring while looking at the condition of their vehicles with an angry face.
Responding to this, the Head of the DKI Jakarta Transportation Service, Syafrin Liputo, emphasized that his party had carried out socialization to visitors not to park carelessly. Private vehicle users who are still parked illegally are immediately taken action by officers.
"Regarding the enforcement of illegal parking in the Monas area, it is carried out so that residents do not park carelessly, we have carried out socialization and appealed to residents not to park on the road. Officers always direct vehicles to park at the Monas IRTI or other locations that have parking spaces such as Gambir or Lapangan Banteng," said Syafrin.
