JAKARTA - The government is formulating a flexible work policy or work from home (WFH) for state civil servants (ASN) after Lebaran 2026. Prasetyo Hadi emphasized that the policy is still in the discussion stage and will not be implemented in full.
"As directed by the President, we are formulating several policies to streamline our work system," said Prasetyo in his statement in Aceh, Saturday, March 21.
According to him, the discussion on the implementation of WFH for ASN emerged as part of an effort to reform bureaucracy that is more adaptive to the development of the times. However, he emphasized that not all sectors can implement a remote work system after Lebaran.
"I need to clarify, this policy only applies to certain sectors so that it is not misunderstood," he said.
Prasetyo explained that the government would consider a number of aspects before implementing the policy, ranging from the readiness of digital infrastructure, performance monitoring mechanisms, to public service quality assurance.
He emphasized that work flexibility should not reduce ASN's responsibility in serving the community. Therefore, the performance evaluation system will be strengthened if the WFH scheme is really implemented.
"In principle, flexibility is given to improve performance, not the other way around," he said.
The government is currently conducting cross-ministry and agency studies to ensure that the policies taken still maintain the effectiveness of bureaucracy while increasing the productivity of ASN in the midst of increasingly dynamic work demands.
Previously, when leading the Lebaran preparation cabinet meeting at the State Palace, March 13, Prabowo instructed his staff to prepare efficiency steps to anticipate the impact of the war in the Middle East.
The President emphasized that the government must think of ways to save fuel considering that the world's oil supply was disrupted by the US-Israeli war in Iran. Policies for efficiency that were studied included WFH to reducing working days.
"For example, how many ASN and officials do not have to go to the office, reduce traffic jams, and implement massive savings, reducing working days we must also consider, and other savings measures," said Prabowo last week.
