Lebaran 2026 Holiday: KPI invites the public to save Gawai and strengthen ties

JAKARTA - The celebration of Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah (2026) is expected to be a golden opportunity to strengthen the ties of brotherhood in the family and community. The Indonesian Broadcasting Commission (KPI) Center specifically invites the public to maximize real togetherness without being disturbed by excessive use of gadgets.

The Head of the Central KPI, Ubaidillah, emphasized the importance of direct social interaction, especially in the midst of the government's new policy regarding restrictions on access to high-risk social media platforms for children under the age of 16.

Negative Impact of Gawai on Underage Children

Ubaidillah stated that the government's policy was in line with the KPI's vision of protecting children's interests in media, especially on television and radio broadcasts. He warned that uncontrolled access to gadgets for children could trigger various negative impacts, including:

Aggressive behavior and mental disorders. Difficulty focusing and inhibiting language skills. A real decrease in social interaction skills.

"Lebaran holidays must be filled with physical activities that bring families closer. You can watch TV together, play, or other activities that bring you closer. The point is, during the holidays, the gadgets are first stored in the closet!" said Ubaidillah.

Bringing Back the Tradition of Homecoming Without Screens

KPI hopes that the homecoming moment to their hometowns will be an opportunity for parents to reintroduce traditional games to children. According to Ubaidillah, the noble values in traditional games can enrich the child's soul through the uniqueness of local traditions.

This appeal is not only for children, but also for parents to be able to provide a real example in reducing interaction with the screen during gatherings with the extended family.

KPI Fully Supports the Implementation of PP Tunas

Regarding the latest regulation, the Central KPI expressed full support for the steps taken by the Minister of Communication and Information Technology in limiting access to risky digital platforms for children. KPI is ready to coordinate to succeed in implementing the Government Regulation (PP) Tunas.

"Although the authority of the KPI is in the realm of television and radio, we are ready to coordinate with the parties concerned to ensure that children's rights in the media are still fulfilled and protected," he concluded.
