Jember Mosque Explosion, East Java Police Chief Hands Down

JEMBER - East Java Regional Police Chief (Kapolda) Irjen Pol. Nanang Avianto directly monitored the scene of the explosion that occurred at a mosque in the Perumahan Pesona Raya Regency area in Patrang Village, Jember Regency, East Java, Tuesday, March 17.

Nanang arrived at the location of the explosion at around 03.00 WIB and was accompanied by the Jember Police Chief AKBP Bobby Adimas Condroputra to monitor the area around the mosque which was being carried out by the Gegana Polda Jatim Bomb Disposal Team (Jibom).

There has been no official statement from Nanang regarding the explosion that occurred at the Perumahan Pesona Raya Regency mosque in Patrang District.

Previously, the Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of Jember Police, AKP Angga Riatma, said the police immediately sterilized the location of the explosion by installing a police line and conducting a crime scene to find out the cause of the explosion.

"We can't conclude the cause of the explosion and the East Java Police's Jibom (bomb disposal) team is still conducting an investigation at the mosque in the Perumahan Pesona Raya Regency area," said Angga, quoted by Antara.

There were no casualties in the incident, but a worshiper was taken to the Emergency Unit (UGD) of the RSD dr Soebandi Jember because he was suspected of having a problem with his ears after hearing the loud explosion.

The explosion was allegedly sourced from an unused cabinet around the men's wudhu area in the mosque, but according to eyewitness testimony there was an iron board around the location of the explosion.

The Jember Police installed a police line around the mosque so that residents did not approach the location and the East Java Police's Jibom team worked to investigate the cause of the loud explosion.

Activities at the mosque were also temporarily stopped because it was feared that there would be a follow-up explosion and the Jibom team combed the entire area of the mosque to ensure this and conduct a crime scene of the explosion.
