JAKARTA - The Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran strongly condemned and considered the US and Israeli attacks that killed 175 students at the Shajareh Tayyebeh Elementary School in the city of Minab, Hormozgan Province, Iran, on February 28, 2026, as a war crime.

"These defenseless children, who only come to class to study and build a bright future, are victims of violence due to missile attacks," said the Iranian Ambassador to Indonesia Mohammad Boroujerdi at a condolence event at his residence in Jakarta, Saturday, March 14, as reported by Antara.

The attack on an elementary school and the killing of 175 students was a violation of the principle of distinction between military and non-military targets and a clear example of a war crime.

"What further clarifies this bitter reality is that American officials themselves have also admitted that the attack was carried out by them," said the Ambassador.

"This confession shows the direct responsibility of the perpetrators of these actions and further confirms the importance of accountability and legal action against this crime within the framework of international mechanisms," he said, adding.

The targeting of a school and the killing of defenseless children is also a clear violation of the basic principles of international humanitarian law and the obligations of various legitimate international instruments, including the Geneva Conventions and rules of protection of civilians in armed conflict.

Based on these principles, civilians, especially children and educational centers, must be fully protected from military attacks, said Ambassador Boroujerdi.

He further said that targeting Iranian territory and attacks on civilian areas not only violated the national sovereignty of an independent country, but also a real blow to the principle of peaceful settlement of disputes in the international system.

Moreover, the attack was carried out while Iran was pursuing diplomacy, dialogue, and negotiations to reach a peaceful solution and strengthen regional peace and stability.

Amid the ongoing US and Israeli attacks on civilians, including children, the Iranian Embassy called on the international community, including Indonesia, active Islamic organizations, international human rights institutions, and children's rights organizations not to remain silent in the face of such crimes.

"By condemning these actions, it is hoped that they will take steps to uncover the truth, hold the perpetrators accountable, and prevent the recurrence of similar tragedies," said the Ambassador.

He emphasized that protection of the lives of children and civilians is the shared responsibility of all countries and nations in the world.

On February 28, the US and Israel launched a series of attacks on a number of targets in Iran, including in Tehran.

The attack caused damage and claimed hundreds of civilian lives, including attacking the Shajareh Tayyebeh Girls Special Primary School in Minab City, Hormozgan Province, southern Iran, killing 175 students and injuring more than 95 children at the school.
