Minister of Culture Hands Over Compensation for Orphan Victims of Disaster in West Sumatra

JAKARTA - Culture Minister Fadli Zon handed over compensation to orphans affected by disasters in Tanah Datar and Padang Panjang, West Sumatra, Friday, March 13, 2026. The assistance was handed over at Aie Angek Cottage, Tanah Datar, as support for residents affected by the disaster last November.

On that occasion, Fadli said the government was trying to remain present, especially for children affected by disasters. "In this holy month, we want to strengthen solidarity, especially for younger siblings who have experienced disasters. We want to share and provide support ahead of Eid al-Fitr in the next few days," said Fadli.

He also touched on the Free Nutritious Meal program, which is expected to reach more children in various regions, including disaster-affected areas. According to him, the more children receive the benefits of the program, the greater the support for their health and learning spirit.

Fadli also gave a message to children to stay motivated in their education. "Little brothers and sisters must stay motivated, study hard, read books, and never give up," he said.

Meanwhile, at the same place, the Head of the Regional Cultural Preservation Center III, Nurmatias, said the assistance was given as a form of support to residents affected by the flood some time ago. "In this fasting month, we want to share and provide support to our brothers and sisters who were affected by the flood some time ago. Hopefully this assistance can benefit us all," he said.

The handover of compensation was also attended by Deputy Mayor of Padang Panjang Allex Saputra, members of the Tanah Datar regional apparatus, as well as local customary and community leaders. Those who accompanied Fadli included the Special Staff of the Minister of Culture for Protocol and Household Affairs Rachmanda Primayuda, Director of Cultural Facilities and Infrastructure Ferry Arlius, and Nurmatias.
