JAKARTA - The Batam City Culture and Tourism Office (Disbudpar) ensures that foreign tourist visits remain normal following the increase in the cost of the Singapore-Batam ferry route due to the additional fuel surcharge which was only implemented on March 12, 2026.
Head of the Batam Culture and Tourism Office, Ardiwinata, said the increase in ticket prices had not had a significant impact on the number of foreign tourists, especially from Singapore.
He said, after receiving the information, his party immediately coordinated with a number of related institutions, including the City Hall and Port Authority (KSOP) and the Transportation Office.
"There is indeed an increase. The information we received, this is related to the increase in world oil prices which is influenced by the situation in the Middle East," said Ardiwinata when confirmed in Batam, Friday, quoted by Antara.
He said that until now there have been no reports of cancellations of travel from travel agents or tourist groups who have scheduled visits to Batam.
"Until now, there has been no cancellation of travel from travel agents or tour groups who have planned to visit Batam in the near future," he said.
The adjustment of the ferry travel costs is imposed in the form of an additional fuel surcharge.
For departure from Singapore to Batam via HarbourFront Centre or Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal, an additional fee of 6 Singapore dollars will be charged.
Meanwhile, for departures from Batam and the Riau Islands, such as Batam Centre, Sekupang, and Tanjungpinang, an additional fee of around Rp65,000 per passenger is charged.
For the round trip, the fare is generally in the range of 76 Singapore dollars or around Rp1 million.
However, from the latest monitoring results, the round-trip ticket price from Singapore to Batam was recorded at around 88 Singapore dollars or around Rp. 1.1 million.
Meanwhile, the one-way travel fare from Batam to Singapore is on average in the range of Rp570-650 thousand, from the previous range of Rp530 thousand.
Ardiwinata explained that the increase in travel costs is fluctuating and can change following the development of global oil prices.
He also admitted that he had communicated with a number of tourism industry players, including travel agents who handle group tourist visits from Singapore.
"From our monitoring results, the scheduled tourism agenda will continue as planned," he said.
One example is the Batam Golf Tournament which has been scheduled and until now has not been canceled by participants.
"The Batam Golf Tournament is full of participants and until now there has been no cancellation," said Ardiwinata.
