The Constitutional Court Needs Strengthening Of Security After The PHP Election Decision

JAKARTA - The Constitutional Court (MK) together with the National Police discussed increasing security after the decision on election results (PHP) for regional head elections (pilkada) in a number of regions.

"This needs to be discussed considering that after the regional election PHP, the Constitutional Court returned to handle the case for judicial review," said Secretary General of the Constitutional Court M. Guntur Hamzah through the Court's official website in Jakarta, reported by Antara, Thursday, June 3.

He said that this could attract public attention as well as several other sensitive issues or issues so that it was necessary to strengthen security within the Constitutional Court.

"Therefore, the Court considers it necessary to re-establish cooperation and coordination with the National Police," he said.

In addition, Guntur said that improving the quality of Polri's resources assigned to the Constitutional Court should also be further improved considering that the institution is again preparing to carry out its duties and authorities to conduct a trial of judicial review of the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia.

"It is hoped that later the security will be maintained for the sake of security in the MK environment," he said.

In addition, Guntur also hopes that the police assistants assigned to the Constitutional Court will pay attention to their education. The reason is, in carrying out their duties, officers need to receive training to improve their quality and expertise in creating a safe environment.

The panel of judges of the Constitutional Court on Thursday read out four decisions in the regional head PHP case, namely Mandailing Natal Regency, North Halmahera Regency, Labuhanbatu Regency, and South Labuhanbatu Regency.

The result is that for North Halmahera Regency and Mandailing Natal Regency, the Court rejected the applicant's application in its entirety, while Labuhanbatu Regency and South Labuhanbatu Regency accepted the applicant's application in part.
