JAKARTA - The Indonesian Navy through the Navy Regional Command (Kodaeral) III thwarted the smuggling of 6.1 tons of tin sand smuggled using cardboard packaging from Bangka Belitung, to Jakarta.
The Commander of the Regional Navy Command (Dankodaeral) III, Rear Admiral TNI Uki Prasetia, said the failure began with information received by his party, there was an illegal tin sand-laden truck departing from Bangka Belitung to Jakarta, Thursday (5/3).
The truck, said Uki, entered Jakarta via the sea route using the KMP Sakura Express. Based on this information, Kodaeral personnel were immediately on standby at Tanjung Priok Port.
When the ship arrived at Tanjung Priok Port, the personnel immediately inspected the truck. The truck was found in a locked state and without a driver.
The truck was then taken to the Kodaeral III Headquarters for cargo inspection. Officers also found tin sand packaged in several boxes.
After being calculated, said Uki, the weight of the lead sand reached 6.1 tons. This finding was then handed over to the authorities to trace the shipping syndicate and the destination of the shipment.
Uki emphasized that this arrest reaffirmed the commitment of the Indonesian Navy to protect Indonesian maritime areas from illegal activities.
It is hoped that this arrest will have a deterrent effect on all parties who want to use Indonesian waters to smuggle illegal goods.
