Minister of Culture asks Al-Qur'an Museum not to just be a display

DELI SERDANG - Minister of Culture Fadli Zon inaugurated the exhibition room of the Al-Qur'an History Museum in Percut Sei Tuan, Deli Serdang on Sunday, March 8, 2026. He emphasized that museums should not stop being just a place to store heritage, but must live as a learning space that is interesting for the younger generation.

This message became the main point of Fadli's visit to North Sumatra. He assessed that Indonesia, as a country with great cultural diversity, needs public spaces that are able to revive literacy and cultural narratives in the community.

"As a country with a variety of cultural expressions of cultural heritage that we call megadiversity, we hope that there will be a narrative of literacy that lives in the midst of the community through museums," said Fadli Zon.

Therefore, Fadli paid special attention to the display of the Al-Qur'an History Museum. According to him, the museum needs to be packaged in a modern, thematic, and interactive way, with the support of technology, proper lighting, and clear narration so that the learning experience feels stronger and more relevant for young people.

Meanwhile, the Chairperson of the Al-Qur'an History Museum, Sabrina, said the presence of this museum is part of an effort to preserve the Islamic civilization in North Sumatra. He emphasized that the treasures of the Qur'an, both culturally and religiously, must be guarded.

The museum, which is located in the Percut Sei Tuan District, is not only a display space, but also a place for academic research and cultural art activities involving the community. Therefore, the inauguration of this new exhibition space is expected to trigger the birth of a more lively, non-static museum management, and closer to the public.

Concluding his remarks, Fadli invited the central and regional governments, the private sector, philanthropists, and communities to work together to build a strong Islamic manuscript museum in Indonesia.
