Bali Governor Collects 11 Thousand Pecalang to Ensure Nyepi Day

DENPASAR - Bali Governor Wayan Koster has gathered 11 thousand pecalang or customary village security units from all provinces for the security appeal of Nyepi Saka 1948.

"This is more than 11 thousand who attended, pecalang from all over Bali, the direction is for all Bali pecalang to be solid and spirit ngayah (serve) with full discipline, responsibility, and dedication to maintain the wewidangan (area) of customary villages so that Bali's security is well maintained," said Koster.

Koster said that this direction was important considering that this year's Nyepi Day coincided with Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah, even there was a potential for the night of takbir to fall on the day of seclusion, namely Thursday, March 19, 2026.

"Specifically this year, in the context of securing Nyepi Day which coincides with Eid al-Fitr so that Bali remains conducive and the image of Balibaik tourism," said Koster, Saturday, March 7.

According to him, the momentum of this holiday is also to strengthen the determination of the pecalang in maintaining adat, tradition, art, culture, local wisdom, and harmony among the people.

He admitted that he was happy with the theme of the 2026 Bali Pecalang Grand Title, namely Sarana Nincapang Kasukertan Jagad Bali Niskala-Sekala which means a means of increasing Bali's tranquility both worldly and non-worldly.

This theme is in line with the vision of the Bali Provincial Government and priority programs, one of which is related to security.

The direction of the policy, the local government wants to create a sense of security for the people and tourists throughout Bali, strengthen security in strategic locations, including Pura Kahyangan Jagad, tourist destinations, economic centers, and crowded centers; strengthen the implementation of security based on Sipandu Beradat.

In addition, increase the security infrastructure, build collective awareness of the community to be responsible for maintaining the security of Bali together, and integrate the implementation of security throughout Bali.

To achieve this security goal, various programs have been and will continue to be improved, such as accelerating and strengthening the implementation of the Sipandu Beradat regulation, improving coordination and cooperation with state institutions, developing a digital security system for reporting incidents in real time, improving the capacity of pecalang skills, and building an integrated Bali security system.

For the work of the village pecalang adat who help the security sector in Bali, Koster conveyed his promise to immediately draft a scheme to provide incentives for them.

"This is being calculated, because the number of 23 thousand people of pecalang throughout Bali certainly requires a fairly large budget, as many as 1,500 customary villages in Bali, so it must be calculated correctly, but our commitment is implemented by Astungkara 2027," he said.
