JAKARTA - The United States (US) has called on all member countries of the United Nations (UN) to stop all forms of support that would allow Russia's war in Ukraine to continue.
The US warned that the conflict had caused devastating humanitarian impacts and threatened global peace and security.
"Four long and brutal years have passed since the Russian-Ukrainian war escalated to the current horrific scale, resulting in thousands of casualties," said US Deputy Ambassador to the UN Tammy Bruce at a UN Security Council meeting, reported by ANTARA from Anadolu, Wednesday, February 25.
Stressing that Washington under President Donald Trump was pushing for a settlement through negotiations, Bruce said the military would never resolve the conflict.
"Military force will never solve this conflict - only a diplomatic solution agreed to by both sides can do that," he said.
"We are now closer to an agreement than at any point since the war began. But clearly we have not reached it - the fighting is still going on," he added.
Bruce also highlighted the alleged foreign support for Moscow and claimed "China remains the decisive party that allows the Russian war industry machine to continue to run".
"We have repeatedly urged China at this forum to stop supplying dual-use goods and material components to Russia, which are ultimately used in drones and other weapons in Ukraine," he said.
He also criticized North Korea, Iran, and Cuba for allegedly providing troops, weapons, and technology that prolong the conflict.
"The United States calls on all UN member states to end all forms of support that enable the continuation of this despicable war, which has caused devastating humanitarian casualties and threatens peace and security around the world," he said.
China's envoy to the UN, Fu Cong, strongly criticized the statement of the US representative. "The statement just made by the US representative again defames and slanders China, which is totally unacceptable," he said.
"China is neither the creator of the Ukrainian crisis nor a party to this conflict," he said, adding that Beijing continues to carry out "normal economic and trade relations" with Russia and Ukraine, as well as with the US and European countries.
Fu also stressed that China would continue to "take reasonable measures to maintain energy security". He accused the US of making up excuses and lies in various forums.
"The US continues to attack and smear China. This is a real political manipulation," he said.
"The goal is to trigger a confrontation of the bloc and create divisions and conflicts," he said, calling on the US to stop diverting attention, stop blaming each other, and stop creating conflicts and wars in various parts of the world.
