Waste Management, KLH Sanctions to Kotim Regency Government Abolished

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Environment (LH) has officially revoked the administrative sanctions for waste management for East Kotawaringin Regency (Kotim), Central Kalimantan (Kalteng).

"With the issuance of the latest decision, the Minister of Environment's Decree No. 2567 of 2025 concerning Waste Emergency Areas will automatically end," said Head of the Kotim Environmental Service (DLH) Marjuki in Sampit, Wednesday, quoted by Antara.

The handover of a copy of the decision to revoke the sanctions was carried out during the 2026 National Waste Management Coordination Meeting in Jakarta. This activity is also related to the ASRI (Safe, Healthy, Resik, Beautiful) Collaboration for Indonesia program.

Marjuki explained that his party had received a copy of the decision of the Minister of Environment Number 656 of 2026 regarding the revocation of the Minister of Environment / Head of the Environment Control Agency Number 413 of 2025 regarding the application of administrative sanctions in the form of government coercion to stop the management of open dumping waste at the final waste processing site of the Sampit City Environment Service of the East Kotawaringin Regency in Pasir Putih Village, Mentawa Baru District, East Kotawaringin Regency.

Previously, in its administrative sanctions, the KLH ordered the Kotim Regency Government to improve waste management, especially management at the Final Processing Site (TPA) at km 14 General Sampit Road, which was considered to be in violation of the rules because it was carried out with open dumping.

Marjuki explained that following up on this, various steps were taken, such as the landfill was significantly improved, especially by closing the existing holes with soil, then leveling so that garbage piles would not occur again.

This step is supported by related institutions, especially the Water Resources, Road Construction, Construction, Housing and Residential Areas (SDABMBKPRKP) which have lowered their heavy equipment to the landfill for this improvement.

Furthermore, waste disposal at the landfill is no longer done openly. Officers make landfill holes for waste disposal, then close or bury them if the hole is full of garbage, then make a new landfill.
