Minister of Foreign Affairs Sugiono Emphasizes Indonesia's Support for Palestine at the UN Human Rights Council Meeting

JAKARTA - Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono reiterated Indonesia's support for Palestine, in line with fighting for the independence of the State of Palestine through an active role in the United Nations Human Rights Council (HRC).

This was conveyed by Foreign Minister Sugiono in his speech when attending the 61st High Level Segment of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, Switzerland, Monday.

"Indonesia reaffirms its firm and consistent support for the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people," said Foreign Minister Sugiono, launching a written statement, Monday (23/2).

This affirmation is in line with the position of Indonesia which has been consistently voiced by Foreign Minister Sugiono on various international occasions and forums.

In his speech, Foreign Minister Sugiono expressed Indonesia's deep concern over the ongoing conflict and humanitarian crisis, including in Palestine.

The Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs said that Indonesia always places the issue of Palestine as part of its moral responsibility and international law to protect civilians and uphold justice in every global meeting.

"We continue to call for an immediate cessation of all forms of violence, the rapid, full, safe, and unhindered opening of humanitarian access, and a credible path towards a just and sustainable peace based on a two-state solution," said Foreign Minister Sugiono.

As president of the UN Human Rights Council, Indonesia emphasized that the enforcement of international humanitarian law is a shared obligation.

Through an active role in the UN Human Rights Council and various global forums, Indonesia will continue to be at the forefront in fighting for Palestinian independence and ensuring that the issue remains a top priority for the international community.

It is known that the Indonesian Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Geneva, Ambassador Sidharto Reza Suryodipuro, served as President of the UN Human Rights Council in 2026.
