Maintain Physical and Concentration During Fasting, Palembang Student Study Hours Reduced

PALEMBANG - The Palembang City Education Office has reduced the duration of each subject by 10 minutes during Ramadan 1447 Hijriah/2026. This policy makes the return time of TK, SD, and SMP students in Palembang City faster than usual.

The Head of the Palembang City Education Office, M. Affan Prapanca, said the adjustment was contained in Circular Letter Number 420/0404/Disdik-I/2026 regarding the implementation of learning during the holy month.

"The adjustment is made by reducing the duration of each class by 10 minutes, so that the time to go home from school is faster than usual," he said in Palembang, Antara, Monday, February 23.

Starting from February 23 to March 14, 2026, teaching and learning activities will be carried out again at each school with the adjustment of the time.

Even though the duration has been cut, schools are asked to ensure that all learning materials are delivered effectively.

According to Affan, this policy was taken to maintain the physical condition and concentration of students who carry out fasting.

The policy applies to all TK, SD, and SMP in the City of Palembang during Ramadan.

"Schools continue to run as usual, only the duration is adjusted. We want the learning atmosphere to remain conducive while giving space for students to carry out their worship well," he said.

In addition to academic activities, schools are also encouraged to fill the month of Ramadan with character-building activities and increasing the value of faith and morals. For Muslim students, it is recommended to follow the Al-Quran and flash boarding, while non-Muslim students continue to carry out religious activities according to their respective beliefs.
